5 reasons why I started my blog and Number 1 may surprise you

Hello, my friends. Thanks for stopping by my little world on the internet. You’re probably wondering why, in 2023, anyone would start a blog. Is anyone reading blogs? I don’t own a business. I’m not an influencer. I’m not.… I bet now you’re asking yourself, why?

Maybe you’ve considered starting a blog and, through a Google search, ended up here. A quick search will come up with more than a dozen reasons to start. I should know; I did that very search. Everything from documenting your life to building a brand and making money are reasons you’ll find for starting a blog. These are all terrific reasons, but not mine.

I didn’t start this hoping to become an influencer or think I would quit my job and do this full-time. I’d never rule out such things, but these aren’t the reasons driving this blog. There are also plenty of reasons not to start a blog. Another search will provide more than a dozen to consider, from finding topics to internet trolls and the time a blog requires. I recently heard that 87% of people who start an online business or blog don’t make it past six months—all valid reasons to consider.

When looking over the reasons to start and not to start I considered them all and kept returning to the same five reasons.

  • Why not?

I know. It sounds so simple. Honestly, isn’t it though? After weighing the reasons to start a blog or not it came down to this simple question. We can always find plenty of reasons not to try something new.

  • I wanted a fun and creative way to connect with others

I’m passionate about sharing with family and friends the things I love. Discussing the latest this or that regarding home trends, fashion, mindset, or productivity is so much fun. I hope to find more like-minded friends to share this passion with through blogging. Seeing and hearing other perspectives only helps me grow.

  • I wanted to learn a new skill

Creating a blog and all that goes into it has been fun. I was surprised by all the skills I’ve already acquired quickly. It’s not difficult, but there are so many things I hadn’t even thought to consider.

  • I’m a multi-passionate person with unique perspectives and experiences

I know thousands of people have created a lifestyle blog. No one is me though. My experiences and perspective will make this blog a unique extension of me and what insights I can offer.

  • Inspire others

I already know of one person I’ve inspired to take action on their dream of doing something creative. I love that!! Shouldn’t we all have something that inspires joy in others?

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.
— Mary Lou Cook

This quote felt like a sign from the Universe when I stumbled upon it. It was like it was telling me to continue down this path. If we’re not careful, we all take life too seriously and let our creativity take a backseat to all of our responsibilities, but aren’t we a much better version of ourselves when we stop and let our creative side take a more significant role in our lives?

I’ll end this by asking you to consider if you’re not starting a blog: what creative pursuits are you putting off? How are you stunting your growth or coloring in the lines by not pursuing your creative passions, whatever they may be?
