Abandoned goals and intentions
Happy Monday!

As I mentioned in my last post, I have several personal and professional goals for the year. Every New Year’s Eve, many of us create resolutions or goals. It’s now January 22nd; how many of them have you stuck with? I didn’t go into 2024 with an unrealistic list I would abandon before the end of the month. My list probably has several items that aren’t much different than everyone else’s: drink more water, lose weight, go to the gym, eat healthier, and de-clutter.
Here, I make sure I stick to my goals by making a modified version of this. My overall goal has been broken down into bite-sized versions of this to make sure I stick with it and achieve those goals. Are your goals too general? Are they overwhelming? Do you want to lose 20 pounds, and the thought seems impossible? How have you broken them down into manageable, achievable goals? Are you modifying your diet and working out to achieve the goal? Have I stuck to them perfectly? Of course not. Remember, it won’t happen overnight, and this was a 2024 goal, not a January goal.
Besides the usual goals, I’m working on a list of things I want to accomplish professionally and projects I want to complete around the house. Some of those projects around the home include replacing all our hollow interior doors, seasonal refreshes, a wallpaper project, a closet re-do, and a deck update. Will they all happen? Hard to say. Time and money will dictate what happens with the projects. I’m not going to stress about it. I just did a minor refresh around the house after the holidays, and it feels good to have accomplished a small part of it. I bought new bedding and pillows because that Arctic blast made me want to add warmer layers. I added some new decorative pillows and finally received my new living room chairs.
Added 2 of these Pottery Barn chairs to the living room.
This year, I intend to stop stressing over things I can’t control and be more mindful of my thoughts and how I spend my time and money. I want to be more present in what I’m doing. I think many of us are guilty of scrolling on our phones and rushing through things to get them done without much thought about what we’re doing.

One of my goals this year is to read more for growth and fun. Instead of mindless scrolling and finding things I need, I will put my phone on Do Not Disturb and get some reading in at night before bed. Reese’s book club recommendations rarely steer me wrong.
I hope you haven't completely abandoned whatever goals you decided you wanted for yourself this year. There are still over 11 months to accomplish those goals and set those intentions. As a gentle reminder throughout the year, I’ll be checking back in with you to ensure you can say you didn’t give up on yourself.
